New Pathway to PyTorch Certified Associate (PTCA) Certification

PyTorch has introduced the PyTorch Certified Associate (PTCA) Certification Pathway, a structured offering delivered through Linux Foundation Education that combines focused learning modules with the PTCA certification exam in a single product.

The pathway consists of four self-paced modules: PyTorch Fundamentals, Data Handling in PyTorch, PyTorch Model Development, and Optimizing PyTorch. Together they span the same key areas the PTCA exam measures, covering work with tensors and devices, data preparation, neural network construction, and model performance improvement.

Skills covered across the modules include working with tensors and devices throughout the model lifecycle from training through prediction; preparing and managing data using Datasets, DataLoaders, and transforms; building neural networks with PyTorch layers, activations, loss functions, and optimizers; and measuring and optimizing performance with tools and techniques such as torch.compile, Automatic Mixed Precision, the PyTorch Profiler, and distributed training concepts.

The full pathway is stated to include 15–17 hours of self-paced learning and hands-on labs. PyTorch notes that certification readiness requires more than completing coursework, recommending additional hands-on practice and real-world PyTorch experience ahead of the PTCA exam.

The certification is aimed at early-stage practitioners who have Python and machine learning experience and are beginning to work with PyTorch. It validates understanding of core concepts and workflows used by engineers and researchers to design, train, optimize, and work with machine learning models.

Why it matters: Early-stage practitioners with Python and machine learning backgrounds can now prepare for and take the PTCA exam through one bundled pathway rather than assembling separate learning and certification steps, with all four modules and the exam included together.
