Everything announced at Microsoft’s Surface Laptop Ultra event
At a Windows and Surface keynote in San Francisco, Microsoft announced release details for the Surface Laptop Ultra, a new laptop powered by Nvidia's RTX Spark Arm-based chip. The machine starts at $2,599 for a configuration with an 8-core CPU, 24GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage, and it will be released on October 16th.
The Laptop Ultra uses built-in magnetic USB-C charging in place of the proprietary Surface Connect magnetic charging port. The Verge's Tom Warren published a deep dive on the new laptop.
Microsoft also announced the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, described as a mini PC for developers. It is available for preorder at $5,999 ahead of shipping in November.
Separately, Microsoft shared details on updates coming to Windows, including "Hybrid Intelligence" features that let Copilot use files on a Windows PC to take actions, and a new search experience that allows quick actions to be performed from the search bar. Muse is also coming to Windows.
Coverage from the event notes that the first Nvidia RTX Spark laptops cost up to $7,000, framing the Laptop Ultra's $2,599 entry price within that range.
Why it matters: Developers and product teams weighing Arm-based Windows hardware now have two concrete options with prices and dates: the $2,599 Surface Laptop Ultra on October 16th and the $5,999 Surface RTX Spark Dev Box shipping in November, the latter available for preorder now. The Windows changes also expand what Copilot can do with files on a PC and add quick actions to search.
