Gemini 4 Argon: our next era of frontier intelligence

Google announced Gemini 4 Argon, its new frontier model, which is rolling out to a set of trusted cyber defenders through its Fairwind Program. Koray Kavukcuoglu, SVP of Google DeepMind and Chief AI Architect at Google, described the model as built to sustain deep reasoning across complex, long-horizon workflows, delivering frontier performance in software engineering, enterprise knowledge work such as legal and finance, and cybersecurity defense.

Google said it is engaged in the U.S. government's voluntary process for pre-release model access while gradually expanding access, and will gather feedback from early testers as it iterates on guardrails before making Argon available to developers, enterprises, and consumers. Argon will launch at an introductory price of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with cached input tokens priced at 95% off the input token price.

According to Google, Argon expands the model's output token limit to an industry-leading 1 million tokens, up from 64,000. Google reported that Argon sets a new state of the art on DeepSWE v1.1 at 77.9%, leads on the Vals Index, and ranks first on Zapier's AutomationBench with 51.3%. On LVBench, Google said Argon is state of the art at 91.7%. Google also said Argon ties for first place on CWE-bench v1 with a score of 68%.

Internally, Google said thousands of Googlers use Argon for coding tasks, research, and writing. Google reported that Argon beat a published quantum computing baseline by 40%, that Argon agents identified memory optimizations freeing over 300 TiB with estimated total savings of 500 TiB to 1 PiB, and that agents are migrating C/C++ codebases to Rust, including the Fuchsia OS Zircon kernel at over 800,000 lines. Wiz is using Argon through its Scan for Good initiative, where Google said the model uncovered a critical vulnerability in healthcare software.

Google said it is strengthening safeguards against misuse, prompt injection, and misalignment, and hardening sandboxed environments. Argon will be released without cyber guardrails to trusted defenders and internal teams. Wider release will start with paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers.
