The latest AI news we announced in August 2026

Collected Oct 7, 2026

Google published a roundup of its August 2026 AI announcements, covering new models, hardware, and product updates. The recap lists the launch of Gemini 3.7 Flash, Gemini 3.5 Transcribe, and the Pixel 11 series of devices, alongside expansions to Search, Gemini Live, and Workspace.

Gemini 3.7 Flash was released as Google's most intelligent workhorse model for coding and agents, arriving three weeks after the launch of 3.6 Flash. Google says it delivers improvements across software engineering, knowledge work, and web development workflows, with an introductory price of half the original 3.6 Flash cost per million tokens.

At Made by Google 2026, the company unveiled Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. The devices include camera upgrades, enhanced durability, and the Google Tensor G6 chip, which runs the latest Gemini Nano model. Google also introduced Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash for video generation, with scene extension, first-and-last-frame interpolation, 4K upscaling, and faster prototyping; it is available in Google Flow, Google AI Studio, the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, and the Gemini app.

Gemini 3.5 Transcribe is a speech-to-text model for real-time transcription aimed at developer workflows such as voice agents, live captioning, and post-call analytics. Google says it converts raw audio directly into accurate, context-aware understanding, unlike conventional models that struggle with noise and jargon. Gemini Live gained features including Personal Intelligence, Daily Brief, Spark, and hands-free inbox management. Search added AI-powered learning features such as interactive visuals, practice quizzes for the SAT, ACT, GRE, and LSAT, step-by-step learning with Lens, and notebooks.

Google said the Gemini app surpassed 1 billion monthly users, making it its fastest-growing product, with 63% of users talking directly to Gemini and more than 150 million images generated daily. Eligible college students worldwide can get one year of a Google AI plan at no cost, plus study tools, a student hub, teacher-led tools, and SAT prep in Gemini. Gemma passed one billion downloads, and WeatherNext 2 was open-sourced after a Nature paper reported state-of-the-art accuracy in predicting cyclone track, intensity, and wind structure.

Why it matters: Developers get a cheaper coding and agent model in Gemini 3.7 Flash and a real-time transcription model in Gemini 3.5 Transcribe, while students gain free access to a Google AI plan for a year. The Pixel 11 line runs Gemini Nano on the Tensor G6 chip, and Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash is available across Flow, AI Studio, the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, and the Gemini app.
