Your Prompts and Skills need a system of record.

Mistral announced that Studio now provides a system of record for AI prompts and skills, giving each one a single place where it is versioned, owned and traceable. The company said prompts and skills are production assets that hold the business logic, tone and policy an AI follows.

According to Mistral, most enterprises manage prompts like scratch notes, leaving them in code repos, notebooks and Slack threads with no clear owner or shared history. Skills are rebuilt or forked by teams that lack visibility into another team's version, and the people who best understand the instructions often do not work in the codebase, so changes wait on engineers, Mistral said.

Studio lets any AI builder, developer or not, edit a prompt or skill and test it immediately without a pipeline run for each attempt, while changes bound for production go through existing tests and approvals, the company said. A domain expert or line-of-business owner can improve a production instruction and promotion via labels still triggers CI/CD, for example through the SDK in a GitHub Actions workflow, according to the post.

Mistral listed the system of record features: immutable versions that cannot be changed after shipping, rollback with version comparison and reversion, a named owner for every asset, classification labels such as Production or Staging, and audit logs recording who made each change and when.

Because prompts and skills live where the AI runs, Mistral said, Observability, lineage and telemetry trace a production output back to the asset version behind it and to the usage that prompted the last change. Skills agents run are reachable as MCP servers from Studio, so what executes in production is the same governed asset that was versioned, the post said.

Mistral said assets start visible only to their creator and can be promoted to a workspace and later across the organisation, with control over who can use them at each step, and that data stays inside the customer's perimeter across deployment modes.

Prompts and skills are available to Mistral Studio customers today.
