Apple will limit Mac disk access as AI agents ‘substantially’ increase risk

Apple plans to add new limits to "full disk access" on the Mac in response to risks it says are posed by AI agents, according to an update Apple posted on Friday. The company said it is rolling out new controls intended to ensure that users who genuinely want to grant an app that level of access can only do so through very explicit user action.
The report cited by The Verge was earlier published by TechCrunch.
The change comes weeks after Jason Aten of Inc found that Meta's Muse AI knew the contents of his messages, even though he had not given the chatbot explicit permission to access them on his iPhone or Mac.
Meta spokesperson Andy Stone pushed back on that report, saying access to Messages is "entirely opt-in." The excerpt does not include further details of Stone's response.
Apple's update did not, in the material available, specify a release date for the controls or name the AI agents it considers to raise the risk.
