Get ready for the game with new football features in Search

Google introduced new football features in Search, announced by Denise Ho, Senior Director of Product Management, Search, as the U.S. football season begins. The upgrades include a Live Game Feed, expanded statistics and the ability to connect a fantasy football account.

The Live Game Feed appears when a user searches for an ongoing professional football game and looks for a red "Live" icon. It shows an overall recap plus a timeline with play-by-play updates, top social commentary, key video highlights and what Google describes as AI-powered insights. It is available now on mobile in the U.S. in English. Support for collegiate teams and expansion to more people around the world are planned for later this month.

Search is also adding a carousel that appears for matchups, letting users check scores from other games across the league without searching for each one separately. New stats rolling out this season cover league leaders in categories such as passing touchdowns and rushing yards, alongside player metrics including sacks, fumbles and yards after catch. Google said Search will soon show championship favorites and playoff brackets. The matchup carousel and these stat updates are to be available globally on mobile.

For fantasy players, Search can now link to Yahoo Fantasy or Sleeper accounts. Users ask AI Mode for lineup help and see an option to securely connect their fantasy account. Once linked, Search pulls in context from the live roster and all leagues to support start/sit recommendations and waiver wire targets, with no manual data entry or screenshots required. Users can also request an assessment of draft picks or a weekly recap. Google said it built the feature for fantasy fans of all levels and will keep improving it through the season, with feedback collected through the thumbs up or thumbs down buttons on each AI Mode response. The fantasy connection feature is available now in the U.S. in English.

Why it matters: Developers and product teams building sports, fantasy or live-event experiences now face a Search surface that aggregates live feeds, league-wide scores, advanced player metrics and personalized fantasy insights. The fantasy integration is limited to U.S. English users with Yahoo Fantasy or Sleeper accounts, while the Live Game Feed is mobile-only in the U.S. until college support and international availability arrive later this month.
