Introducing: Devstral 2 and Mistral Vibe CLI.

Collected Oct 5, 2026

Mistral AI announced Devstral 2, a next-generation coding model family, and Mistral Vibe CLI, an open-source command-line coding assistant powered by Devstral.

Devstral 2 is a 123B-parameter dense transformer with a 256K context window, released under a modified MIT license. Mistral said it reaches 72.2% on SWE-bench Verified and is up to 7x more cost-efficient than Claude Sonnet at real-world tasks. Devstral Small 2, a 24B-parameter model with the same 256K context window and an Apache 2.0 license, scores 68.0% on SWE-bench Verified and can run locally on consumer hardware.

Both models are described as open-source and permissively licensed. Mistral said Devstral 2 and Devstral Small 2 are 5x and 28x smaller than DeepSeek V3.2, and 8x and 41x smaller than Kimi K2.

In human evaluations conducted by an independent annotation provider with tasks scaffolded through Cline, Mistral said Devstral 2 showed a 42.8% win rate versus a 28.6% loss rate against DeepSeek V3.2, while Claude Sonnet 4.5 remained significantly preferred.

Mistral Vibe CLI explores, modifies and executes changes across a codebase using natural language in the terminal or via the Agent Communication Protocol in an IDE. It is released under Apache 2.0 and includes project-aware context, smart references, multi-file orchestration, persistent history and autocompletion.

Devstral 2 is currently free via Mistral's API. After the free period, pricing will be $0.40/$2.00 per million tokens for Devstral 2 and $0.10/$0.30 for Devstral Small 2. Mistral partnered with Kilo Code and Cline, and Vibe CLI is available as a Zed extension.

Mistral said Devstral 2 is optimized for data center GPUs and requires a minimum of 4 H100-class GPUs; Devstral Small 2 is built for single-GPU operation and runs on NVIDIA systems including DGX Spark and GeForce RTX, with NVIDIA NIM support coming soon.
