Quoting Jake Boggan
Jake Boggan, commenting on Hacker News in response to a post about openai/math, said that Barnette's Conjecture is supposedly proven "here - problem 180." Boggan described himself as a former graph theory enthusiast who moved to Budapest to study and began working on the conjecture, which occupied his thoughts on and off for 24 years across different fields. He said he had spent thousands of hours on the problem and that last summer he briefly thought he had solved it. He expressed mixed emotions about the reported solution, comparing the feeling to hearing that an ex-girlfriend died suddenly in a car crash, and noted that many people are probably feeling odd emotions tonight.
