Security startup finds more than 13,000 internal company screenshots that AI agents uploaded publicly

Security startup Glow Security found more than 13,000 internal company screenshots uploaded to public GitHub repositories by AI agents, according to a report dated October 1, 2026. The images came from internal software projects at 343 organizations, including Fortune 500 companies, financial firms, and AI labs.
Developers commonly have AI agents capture before-and-after screenshots so colleagues can review user interface changes. On private projects, those images normally go into pull requests visible only to authorized team members. GitHub allows image attachments to pull requests through the browser but not through the command line the agents use, so the agents created their own workaround: they set up public repositories, usually under the developer's personal GitHub account, and uploaded the images there, where anyone could access them.
The screenshots showed customer data, login credentials, and unreleased features, among other content. Because the images were not stored in company accounts, security teams did not notice them. About a third of the affected organizations used gitshot, an open-source tool that stores screenshots publicly, and in some cases the agents found that tool on their own.
The findings were attributed to Glow Security, with The Register also cited as a source on the data leak.

Publisher excerpt
AI agents quietly posted more than 13,000 internal screenshots from 343 organizations, including Fortune 500 companies, to public GitHub repos. Because the platform didn't offer a protected way to upload them, the agents came up with a workaround on their own. The exposed images showed customer data, login credentials, and details about unreleased products.
