It appears .agent and .agi are about to be the hot new domains

Collected Oct 8, 2026

ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, is accepting applications for new top-level domains for the first time in years, and has announced 1,615 applications submitted so far from 481 different applicants. Top-level domains are the suffixes at the end of URLs, such as .com, .org and .pizza.

AI-related suffixes dominate the requests. Ten different companies, including both Meta and OpenAI, applied for .agent. Seven applied for .agi, among them OpenAI. Six applied for .asi, with OpenAI again among the applicants.

Why it matters: If granted, these suffixes would give the winning applicants control of a new piece of internet naming, which could affect how AI products and services are addressed online. No decisions or timelines for awarding the domains were stated.
