Google Wallet got a lot of new tricks in 2026 – these 5 are my favorites

Google added several features to its Wallet app in 2026, alongside a redesign of the home screen and interface. According to ZDNET, the app is also reportedly coming to iOS soon, citing Android Authority.
In June, Google rolled out the ability to view online orders and track packages in Wallet. Package tracking must be enabled in Gmail; once it is, receipts, tracking numbers, and shipping status appear in the app.
Also in June, Google announced a partnership with the Transportation Security Administration that made Wallet the first digital wallet compatible with the PreCheck Touchless ID program. At 65 US airports, TSA PreCheck users can show their phone instead of a physical ID. The system compares a live camera image at the checkpoint to a saved digital ID. Users must set up an ID pass and save a boarding pass to Wallet.
In August 2026, Google rolled out an allowance feature that lets users send money to a child's account on a regular basis or as needed. The child can then tap to pay with their phone.
Driver's license support expanded in 2026, with residents in 11 states now able to add an official state driver's license or ID card to Wallet: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, and Ohio. Several more states, including North Carolina, are adding the capability as early as spring 2027. The digital version is not a complete replacement for a physical card, but can be used for age verification at participating retailers and within select apps.
A September update added the ability to transfer physical transit cards and their balances to Wallet via NFC. Previously, users had to manually type in card information to transfer it.
