Microsoft’s Surface Mouse is back, now with haptic feedback – and I need it

Collected Oct 1, 2026

Microsoft is launching a new Surface Mouse with haptic feedback, according to a blog post announcing new Surface devices. The mouse will be available in stores on October 13 and priced at $80. It marks the first return of the Surface Mouse since the original launched in 2016.

According to the report, the haptic feedback provides a sensation when clicking on the screen, snapping a window into place, or aligning an object. Microsoft says the sensation will be subtle but noticeable. The mouse also includes a customizable action button designed to be used with Copilot but reprogrammable for other actions. Changing its function requires Microsoft's Surface app, which comes preinstalled on Surface laptops and is available for non-Surface computers via the Microsoft Store.

ZDNET writer Adam Doud noted that the mouse can be reprogrammed, but the action button cannot be configured per app individually as with some other mice. Microsoft said the mouse offers everyday shortcuts. It has a redesigned ambidextrous shape for use in either hand, Bluetooth 6.0 for pairing and switching among devices, and is made with 30% recycled plastic. Microsoft discontinued its lineup of keyboards and mice in 2023; accessory maker Incase has since been selling peripherals described as designed by Microsoft.
