Is ChatGPT your new Google Workspace alternative? Meet Space, Pages, and slides

At its fourth annual DevDay, OpenAI announced ChatGPT Space, described in an OpenAI blog as "a new home for your team to collaborate with AI to get work done." Pro, Business, and Enterprise users can try Space today on the desktop app and the web, with mobile access coming later, OpenAI said.
Space lets users work with ChatGPT, other teammates, and an agentic feature called Dots. Pages and collaborative slides were also announced and are "built for human and agent collaboration," according to OpenAI. Each lets users create documents and presentations using ChatGPT's generative abilities, including on-page research, graphics, and images.
The slides feature lets users build interactive slides with coworkers and ChatGPT, designing conversationally or importing their own templates. Multiple users and agents can edit slides simultaneously. Users can present directly from ChatGPT or export slides to PowerPoint or Google, which OpenAI said happens without disrupting formatting. Pages are available now, while slides are coming in the next few weeks.
OpenAI also announced Private Intelligence, described as a data access approval layer intended to give enterprise customers "greater confidence that their data is protected." OpenAI said Zero Data Retention with Private Safety Processing enables automated safety reviews without giving OpenAI personnel access to the underlying content, and that a preview of Private Inference coming this fall combines confidential computing with strict, verifiable controls.
During the keynote, CEO Sam Altman discussed Space, Pages, slides, and Dots as pieces of a new system, though the report said he did not frame it as a Workspace competitor. An OpenAI representative told ZDNET by email that Space is built for people and AI to work on the same content together and that it brings the process of creating, sharing, and iterating into one place. The announcements follow Anthropic's consolidation of Claude Cowork, Claude Design, and Slides into Claude.
