This startup is issuing AI-generated acne prescriptions

Collected Oct 5, 2026

Nolla Health, a healthcare startup, announced Monday that people in Utah can use its app to scan their faces, with its AI system analyzing acne severity and autonomously writing a prescription, according to Bloomberg.

The service is being launched as a pilot program in which physician oversight is gradually loosened. Under the initial phase, two physicians will approve each AI-generated prescription before it is issued for the first 100 patients. For up to 500 patients, physicians will begin reviewing prescriptions only after they have been prescribed. After that point, physicians will review a sample of at least 10 percent, according to the announcement.

The company said the Utah service is a pilot, and the cited oversight thresholds describe how physician review is scheduled to change as patient volume rises.
