Using Parseable with Datasette for OpenTelemetry traces

Simon Willison has published a TIL (Today I Learned) post describing how to run Parseable and feed it OpenTelemetry traces from Datasette.
Willison wrote that he saw Parseable on Show HN. He described it as a new observability platform offered in three forms: an open source AGPL Rust implementation shipped as a single binary of roughly 180MB, an Enterprise version with extra features, and a cloud hosted option.
According to the post, Datasette added OpenTelemetry support in version 1.0a41, a change Willison credited to Alex Garcia. Willison said he used Codex to work out how to run Parseable and send Datasette traces to it. He described the resulting write-up as human-written and said it documents the patterns that worked.
The post includes a screenshot of a Datasette trace displayed inside the Parseable localhost web application. The entry is tagged datasette, observability, alex-garcia and opentelemetry.

TIL: Using Parseable with Datasette for OpenTelemetry traces I saw Parseable in a Show HN today - it's a new observability platform with both an open source (AGPL) Rust implementation (a single ~180MB binary), an "Enterprise" version with extra features and a cloud hosted option. Since Datasette 1.0a41 added OpenTelemetry support (thanks, Alex Garcia), I decided to fire up Codex and have it figure out how to run Parseable and feed it traces from Datasette. Here's my (human-written) TIL showing the patterns that wor
