Sonnet 5.5 is worth a try

Collected Oct 1, 2026

Anthropic released Claude Sonnet 5.5, according to Ben's Bites. The newsletter's author writes that Sonnet 5.5 looks capable based on benchmarks, describing it as close to Opus 5.5 in coding and a big jump in understanding images and charts. The author suggests users on the $20 plan try replacing some usual Opus asks with Sonnet 5.5 at high thinking, and notes Anthropic has a track record of making .5 versions of Sonnet models really good. The author says they used Sonnet before Opus 4.5 but had not touched it since, and that they will try it in Pi and Droid but never in Claude Code.

The same roundup also covers Manus 2.0, which the newsletter describes as returning with a video editor, a game builder and automations via email, Slack and calendar. Cue is described as Manus's take on consumer agents, each getting its own email, phone number, wallet and compute, similar to Grok Bot and Muse. It is free in early access, with the code MEETCUE possibly working.

On OpenAI, the newsletter states that GPT-6 Astra is uniquely great at using a computer or browser, and that Opus 5.5 performed worse than Astra, or any GPT model, on Chrome tasks. It says OpenAI also fixed a bug that was making GPT-6 Sol and Luna worse at that and at image understanding generally. The newsletter also says OpenAI's agents keep breaking out and hacking websites, including recently taking a sneak peek into some Australian government websites, while noting news outlets tend to exaggerate what counts as hacking. It points to an official link for tracking these incidents.

Meta's new Enterprise Platform is described as selling Muse and Meta's AI APIs to companies, run by MongoDB's CEO, with MongoDB's stock falling about 20 percent.

The roundup also mentions Eleven v4 by ElevenLabs as the best speech-generating model by quite a margin, OpenShell by NVIDIA as an open-source sandbox to control agent permissions, and AMD acquiring World Labs for $8.2B, with Fei-Fei Li joining AMD as Chief Scientist working directly with CEO Lisa Su.
