Emmi joins Mistral to accelerate the AI-native industry

Collected Oct 1, 2026

Mistral AI said this week that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Emmi AI, an Austrian company described as a Physics AI pioneer. The move is intended to strengthen Mistral's position as an AI transformation partner for industrial enterprises.

Mistral said it is extending its models' capabilities to understand and model physics and enabling AI agents to use existing engineering tools. With the acquisition, Mistral said it significantly enriches its products and expertise in this domain, aiming to accelerate the work of engineering solution teams worldwide. The acquisition also accelerates Mistral's Science roadmap, advancing its understanding of fundamental physics and leveraging industrial data, according to the company. Mistral said Emmi AI's models complement its own, positioning it to build agents for engineers.

Founded in Austria, Emmi AI has developed expertise in Physics AI and provides large engineering models, according to Mistral. The company says Emmi empowers industrial players to accelerate engineering workflows and product design cycles, replace multi-day computations with real-time simulations, and build digital twins to optimize asset operations.

Emmi's co-founders and its team of more than 30 researchers and engineers will join Mistral AI's Science and Applied AI teams in May, Mistral said.

Arthur Mensch, co-founder and CEO of Mistral AI, said the acquisition cements Mistral's leadership in industrial AI and positions it as a partner for manufacturers in sectors including aerospace, automotive and semiconductors. Guillaume Lample, co-founder and Chief Science Officer of Mistral AI, said the acquisition is a turning point for industrial innovation and that the company aims to deliver real-time simulations and digital twins.

Johannes Brandstetter, Emmi AI's co-founder and Chief Science Officer, said the integration of Emmi's expertise into Mistral's ecosystem is positioned to revolutionize core R&D, citing work including real-time stabilization of power grids, simulation of injection molding and automotive safety testing.
