Anthropic launches free AI security scans for open-source projects

Anthropic has introduced a service called OSS Scanner that offers free security vulnerability scanning to open-source projects, according to The Verge. Projects that opt in will receive what Anthropic describes as thorough, periodic security scans performed by its strongest models at no cost.
The service is designed to flag possible security issues, and Anthropic says scanning can be faster and more frequent than would otherwise be possible. The trade-off is that the reports are fully model-generated: OSS Scanner's outputs do not include human review or triage. Anthropic acknowledges that reports may therefore be incorrect or invalid.
No pricing details, availability dates, supported languages or project eligibility criteria were included in the announcement.
Why it matters: Open-source maintainers who opt in could be alerted to potential vulnerabilities sooner, but they would need to assess each report themselves since findings arrive without human validation.
